Until quite recently there were strict limitations on bowhunting in South Africa imposed by wildlife agencies. Now after years of exhaustive, comprehensive and experimental trials, strict rules have been introduced through government legislation. This has now brought about a distinct advantage for Bowhunting as we now have highly experienced, qualified, technically competent Professional hunters who can give proven advice on the precise methods and equipment required to hunt our tough African game using hunting methods and equipment that has been tested and proven in the field.

We are proud to have on our team Frits Rabe (pictured right holding the leopard). Frits is licenced to hunt dangerous game with both rifle and bow. He is a Bowhunting specialist and, to date, is the only P.H to have harvested all dangerous game species and a crocodile with one client with a Bow. Frits is also a very skilled gunsmith who trained and served in the South African Special Forces. He is also a member of P.H.A.S.A. You simply could not be in better hands.

BowHunting Equipment.

We would advise that you bring two well-tuned bows with appropriate spare parts, as replacements can be difficult to get at short notice. Long, recurve and compound bows may be used, a bow with a draw weight of 45–65 Lbs., 350 - 450 grain arrows and broadheads with 1 ¼" cutting edge are sufficient for smaller plains game. Big game such as Kudu, Eland, Gemsbok and Giraffe require an 80–100 pound bow, arrows of 700 – 850 grains and broadheads with a minimum of two blades and 1 ½” cutting edge (i.e. kinetic energy of 80–105 foot pounds is required). Arrows can be made out of wood, fibreglass, carbon or aluminum and the shaft must have a minimum length of 19.68 inches (500 mm). Broadheads must not have any moving parts, barbs or serrated edges. Arrows with blunt points, bird points or judo points, may only be used on game birds. A range finder will also pay dividends for assessing distance in the bush or out on the plains. You may also bring your own fold away blinds if you wish, though remember you may fly in on a light aircraft, so space may be at a premium.

How will I hunt?
The choice of how you hunt is yours. You can hunt from ground blinds, or if you prefer a bigger challenge, you can hunt on foot, tracking, spotting and then stalking your trophy. This requires long-distance walking and crawling through the bush veldt on sometimes hot sand, which requires stamina. Here, as elsewhere, one of the team will always be with you to offer help and advice. Your patience will be tested to the limit while hunting from the many ground blinds. Our experienced team have carefully planned and set up these blinds near watering holes at specific distances.
